Cost of Underfloor Heating
The cost of underfloor heating can be daunting for some, in this article we break down the typical costs of an electric and water underfloor heating system.
The cost of a underfloor heating system can at first seem daunting, especially before you aren't sure exactly how much of your house you would like to have underfloor heating in, the type of underfloor heating you need, or the finer details of installation. We have created this guide to give you an idea of the costs associated with underfloor heating, so that there aren't any surprises for you down the road.
Renovated House Installation
For small renovation projects such as bathrooms, electric underfloor heating can be a very cheap and effective solution. Underfloor heating mats such as these are very easy to install and can be purchased for less than £50 per square metre.
For those more confident in their DIY abilities, loose wire can also be a very cost effective solution, but requires slightly more experience to fit properly.
If you are looking to retrofit wet underfloor heating into your home, this will typically cost around £140 per square metre. Generally, you will also require an installer and a set of drawings which will likely add significant cost. This method of underfloor heating is not typically advisable, but is more efficient in the long run - saving money on running.
New Building Installation
Installing underfloor heating in a new build home is certainly the most cost effective method of installing underfloor heating. For an electric underfloor heating system, you can expect to pay around £35 per square meter.
For a wet underfloor heating system you can expect to pay around £80 per square meter. This reduction in cost can be attributed to the fact that it is much easier to install wet underfloor heating during the construction of a home.
